Panopto: Zoom Recording Retention Policy
As of July 1, 2025 Zoom recordings will be retained for 6 months
and will then be automatically deleted.
Why? Panopto’s pricing model (Panopto is the video server where we store Zoom recordings) has changed such that storing video is becoming increasingly expensive. Reducing our default retention window for Zoom recordings will help us with the overall cost of our video server.
Action item: If you have any Zoom recordings that you would like to keep for more than 6 months, please reach out to digitaled@gordonconwell.edu so we can work with you on the best way to do that. If you’re not sure if you have recordings you want to save, please take some time to peruse Panopto here. Click on “My Folder” on the left and then on the subfolder “Meeting Recordings” near the middle of the page.
FAQs
How are Zoom recordings saved? When you make a recording using your Gordon-Conwell-based Zoom account, it is automatically uploaded into Panopto. By default, Zoom recordings will live in Panopto for 6 months.

Can I save my Zoom recordings for longer than 6 months? Yes. If you have Zoom recordings you would like to keep in Panopto for longer than 6 months, please reach out to Digital Education and we will review your request. You may also download and keep copies of your Zoom recordings; see us if you would like to do that and have questions.
Will this apply retroactively? Yes. On July 1st, Zoom recordings older than 6 months will be deleted unless Digital Education has actively changed their retention settings for you.
Can I share the link to a recording in Zoom’s cloud storage? No. Gordon-Conwell Zoom recordings are automatically deleted from Zoom’s cloud storage a few days after they are imported into Panopto.
